Most people who go on ERASMUS will tell you that it was the best year of their life. Just to fit the cliché this is exactly what I would say. On my Erasmus year I met so many people. They were people from a whole range of backgrounds, not just students. Every day and night there was another reason to celebrate with a party and of course, being an Erasmus student I acted upon these reasons! During my year abroad I travelled throughout Italy. I experienced this beautiful country not only as a tourist but also as a student and a resident. The people welcomed us and appreciated it even more when we embraced their culture with open minds. Being in such a hospitable environment it was difficult not to enjoy yourself and try out as many new options as possible, be it their fantastic range of foods, wines, festivals or beaches among a long list of things. Erasmus was not just a year spent in the library with a dictionary, cramming for exams. It was a year spent interacting with people from all over the world, tourists, immigrants and fellow students alike. I would strongly recommend the Erasmus experience to anyone who is willing to make a genuine effort in meeting new people. You don't have to be the most out-going person to enjoy this experience. It is more important to be friendly and open-minded. Everybody there is hoping to make friends, learn the language and experience the country and its culture through the everyday life. Erasmus is a real eye-opening experience that allows the student to embrace a city, a county and its people in a way that is not accessible to the lay-tourist. The craziest time you will ever have in your life. The best fun you will ever have. (The most alcohol you will ever drink in your life!) The nicest people you will ever meet. The best experience of your life!
